This 12-week program is based on the U.S. physical activity guidelines and helps participants reach 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity per week. Each class is led by trained instructors and includes easy-to-follow routines that can be adapted for many physical abilities and conditions.

What to Expect

Each 50-minute Movement to Music (M2M) class is designed to help you move, feel stronger, and enjoy the rhythm. Sessions include a full-body warm-up, strength training for upper and lower body, cardio to boost heart health, balance work to improve stability, and a relaxing cool down to close each class. Modifications and progressions are offered throughout, so you can participate safely and confidently—no matter your starting point.

What is M2M?

M2M is a 12-week rhythmic exercise program that consists of choreographed movement routines set to music, designed to improve range of motion, muscular strength, cardiorespiratory endurance, and balance.

Who can join the program?

M2M is for individuals with mobility limitations who want to explore new forms of exercise and enjoy music.

How do I sign up for M2M?

First you need to join NCHPAD Connect. Once you join NCHPAD Connect and fill out our questionnaire, our team will work with you directly to get you enrolled. If you are already part of NCHPAD Connect and want to join M2M, contact us at nchpad@uab.edu or 866-866-8896.

How much does the program cost?

The program is absolutely FREE. It doesn’t cost anything except your time.

What is the time commitment?

Three hours per week for twelve consecutive weeks, hosted through live virtual Zoom classes by our M2M instructors.

When and where are the classes offered?

All classes are virtual, so you can participate from the comfort of your own home. Classes are offered via Zoom at scheduled times during the twelve weeks of the program.

Can the program be adapted to different mobility needs?

Yes, it can. Staff are specially trained to work with a number of disabilities and can tailor the movements and exercises in the M2M classes to fit your needs.

Can I participate if I have hearing impairment?

Yes, absolutely. You can still fully participate by following the movements and exercises visually.

Can I participate if I have visual impairment?

Yes. Instructors can provide more detailed and conscious verbal instructions to help guide you through the movements and exercises.

What if I miss a class or can’t attend every session?

No problem! While we encourage regular attendance to get the most out of the program experience, we understand that life can get busy. The 12-week program is designed to gradually build strength and endurance over time. If you miss a class and feel you need to catch up, please contact your M2M instructor or call us at 866-866-8896 to discuss options.

What training do the M2M coaches have?

The M2M instructors have a background in dance and exercise coaching and are trained to make real-time adaptations during class to ensure exercise experience for everyone.

How is the program delivered?

The program is delivered online through the Zoom platform. We use the “Healthie” platform for this program. Classes are virtual so you can participate from anywhere. Classes will be held via a Zoom link which you will be able to access in the Healthie portal.

What kind of equipment do I need to participate?

A computer or other device to connect to Zoom classes, access to WiFi, a sturdy chair (preferably without arms), wrist weights and a space to easily move.
