Personal Floatation Devices
- Doesn't slide up over the neck or head
- Doesn't restrict movement
- Has the appropriate flotation to keep the individual's head above water level
- Shows no evidence of wear
There are five types of PFDs; each is designed with a particular purpose in mind. The U. S. Coast Guard tests and approves PFDs for safety. Only those PFDs that are approved should be considered for use.
Participation in water activities can be fun for everyone. The issues of understanding individual comfort around water, appropriate clothing, heat and cold injuries, and personal flotation devices are just four of the many topics to be considered prior to participation.
