  • Getting Students Involved can have Synergistic Benefits
The Lawn Care Assisting Device (LCAD) is a specialized device that was designed to make gardening more enjoyable and productive for individuals who use wheelchairs. The LCAD was developed within the context of a senior capstone biomedical engineering design course, Devices for Persons with Disabilities, at Duke University's Pratt School of Engineering. Students choose projects based on problems presented by people in the community and design and construct a non-commercially available device, to fit a particular need presented by the chosen client. For more information on this course, please go to http://courses.pratt.duke.edu/bme260/.
