Get the Know the Sports

Many people all over the world tuned in and celebrated the achievements of so many athletes who competed in various disciplines of 15 sports during the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang, Korea.  Although the Winter Games are over, the fun, excitement, and competition is not because the 2018 Winter Paralympic Games run March 9-18, 2018.  NBC Olympics will present more than 250 hours of coverage across NBC, NBCSN, Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA, NBCSports.com, and the NBC Sports app.  NBC Olympics’ coverage will include all six Paralympic winter sports – alpine skiing, snowboarding, sled hockey, wheelchair curling, cross-country skiing, and biathlon.  Check this Watch Guide to see when each sport is being aired.

The Winter Games provide a great opportunity to learn about the Paralympic Sports movement and to implement Winter Paralympic Sports in the classroom. Start by encouraging your students to watch the games then discuss the Paralympic Sports with your students. Ask your students which events are their favorites and how they would adapt these sports to play in the classroom. Starting a conversation about the Paralympic Movement can help teachers promote inclusion and disability awareness with students.
