FreeMotion Circuit Training

Certified instructors lead all of these classes. FreeMotion Circuit Training allows multiple participants with and without disabilities to work at the same time. The equipment allows participants to focus on all major upper and lower body muscles in just 30 minutes. As participants increase strength and endurance, each person can make as little as a 2.5 pound increase in the working weight for a particular machine. In a typical routine, the group will move from station to station, working for 45-60 seconds and transitioning to the next machine within 45 seconds. The equipment we will use for the groups accommodates all sizes and skill levels of participants, young and old. FreeMotion equipment allows clients to move through a safe and pain-free range of motion with the ability to adjust each piece at various degrees if recovering from injury or having restrictions from the effects of Osteoarthritis.

Lap Swimming (Open Aquatics)

Lap swimming program ideal for increasing general fitness, maintaining current fitness levels, and having a good time.

Rock Climbing

ARS has partnered with the Outdoor Adventure Center staff to create a climbing program for young adults, ages 13-17. Experience the freedom and joy of rock climbing. The equipment used has been developed by Mark Wellman, a world famous climber who is paraplegic. Mark has worked with Rock Climbing industry leaders like Yates to develop equipment specifically for individuals who use wheelchairs. The harnesses are designed with 4-6” wide leg straps to prevent circulation from being cut off. Also, for individuals who are unable to get out of wheelchairs, we have harnesses that work in conjunction with a wheelchair hoist system. All of this new equipment will be demonstrated and operated by official American Mountain Guide Association trained staff. The climbing activity is individually designed to meet everyone’s needs; all you need is the desire. Rock on!

Wheelchair Strength Training

Led by a certified strength training professional, additional assistance is provided upon request. This moderate-to-low intensity program focuses on core, posterior and anterior strength, and endurance by doing 15-20 reps per exercise. The equipment used accommodates all sizes, ages, and skill levels.

Leisure Skills Development

Focuses on the development of leisure and recreation skills including cooking, swimming, community service projects, money management, resume building, etc. This program is designed for young adults with disabilities needing to develop lifetime skills.
