Potential Benefits of Exercise


  • Improved glucose control (Type 2 only)
  • Improved insulin sensitivity/decreased need for medications
  • Decreased body fat
  • Improved cardiovascular health
  • Decreased stress

Before Exercising

  • Obtain a complete medical exam, including a physical exam, urinalysis, renal function evaluation, serum lipids, and electrolyte balance, as well as an exercise stress test.
  • Wear a medic-alert bracelet and full identification, including your physician's name and telephone number in case of an emergency.
  • Drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration.
  • Wear comfortable shoes.
