America Walks and the Every Body Walk! Collaborative are pleased to announce that NCHPAD will be a presenter at the 2015 National Walking Summit to be held in Washington, DC, October 28-30, 2015. The 2015 National Walking Summit is the premier opportunity for national organizations, companies, agencies, and local partners to share best practices and stories, increase the visibility of key issues, build support among federal agencies, and create momentum and build capacity for work at the local community levels.

NCHPAD will present on current initiatives to promote inclusion in walking and health promotion in the workshop “Creating Community and Promoting Walking One Step at a Time”. This session features three programs to build healthy inclusive communities through programs aimed at removing barriers to walking and connecting people, place and community. They will be joined by a wide array of presentations on topics including: Vision Zero; local advocacy for walkable communities; equal access for all people to walkable communities; walking for health and fitness, and more. The 2015 National Walking Summit will also model building walking and physical activity into what would typically be a sedentary conference agenda.

America Walks and The Every Body Walk! Collaborative represent nearly 700 organizations across the country that are working to increase walking and making America a better place to walk. The 2015 National Walking Summit will come at a watershed moment of this work, coming on the heels of the expected release of the US Surgeon General’s Call to Action on Walking & Walkability. Over 500 leaders, experts and advocates are expected to attend the Summit, coming together to share knowledge, make connections and continue to grow the walking movement.
