Notes

NDAD's annual "Escape to the Lake" extravaganza is an awesome, two-day event that provides individuals with physical disabilities the opportunity to water-ski and participate in other outdoor water events such as fishing, pontoon riding, swimming and tubing. "Escape to the Lake" is held at Nelson Lake, near Center, ND. Nelson Lake is ideally suited for such an event as the water is heated by the nearby power plant, thus enabling a more comfortable experience for those participants who may have muscle spasticity. The event is open to any North Dakota resident with a physical disability. Each year, over 60 individuals of all ages and disabilities participate in the Extravaganza.

Experts from Texas Adaptive Aquatics are on-site to provide support and guidance to all water-skiing participants. In addition, adaptive equipment is available to allow participants to experience fishing, boating and tubing. Volunteers from NDAD, sporting Chance and other local groups assist with the event. Participants enjoy a complimentary breakfast and lunch each day was well as the camaraderie and friendships that develop over the weekend. Additional entertainment is also enjoyed by all in the form of a water-skiing show.
