Camp Hug The Bear

Camp Hug the Bear is a cooperative of Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association (NSSRA), The Glenview Park District, North Shore Pediatrics, and KDG Consultation and Treatment working together with the McNary Family to provide a post-camp program. Camp participants are children three to five years of age who have been diagnosed on the autism spectrum or have sensory integration disorder.

Goals of the program focus on motor development, language, social interaction and play skills. Overall goals are to provide campers with a fun atmosphere where their individual needs will be identified, acknowledged and respected. The multi-disciplinary team of occupational, speech and therapeutic recreation specialists provide a structured schedule in a small group setting.

This ratio of child to specialist or counselor provides each child with the necessary attention.

The mission of Camp Hug The Bear is to provide participants with an opportunity to take part in a unique camp experience. The camp is a vital link in the growth and development of children with autism spectrum and sensory integration disorder.
