The U.S. Department of Justice has not adopted new accessibility guidelines since ADAAG was amended in 1994 and 1997. This ANPRM and the eventual Notice of Proposed Rulemaking by the Department of Justice will provide people with disabilities an additional opportunity to submit public comment on the new accessibility guidelines that will most impact their daily use of the built environment, recreation facilities, and facilities of state and local government. In your best advocacy efforts, people with disabilities should become educated on the process, the advanced notice of proposed rule, and the issues that will have lasting impact on the usability of these various environments. People with disabilities, professionals, and industry representatives are encouraged to participate in the period of public comment. Your comments can help to shape the future rule.
