About My name is Dan. I live in Durham NC. I have a C5-6 SCI, which means I have compromised dexterity in my hands and in my upper arms. I exercise and get physical activity mostly by pushing my wheelchair on a paved, greenway trail about 2-2.5 miles, one or two times a week. I also have wrist cuff weights that I use to do some shoulder exercises. During the winter months with the sun setting so early, it's hard for me to get out onto the trail after work but before it gets dark. And when it's cold I don't feel like getting out there much. I have access to a small fitness center at my apartment complex but unfortunately living alone, I don't have anyone to regularly assist me in getting set up on the equipment due to my hand function limitations. I'm interested in the 14-week exercise program mostly to keep track of progress and to have a reason to keep up with my exercises.

Welcome to NCPAD's 14-Week Program to a Healthier You!

What is the program?

  • Description: A free, personalized, web-based physical activity and nutrition program
  • Target Audience: People with mobility limitations, chronic health conditions and physical disabilities
  • Goal: To help you get moving and making healthy nutrition choices
  • Duration: 14 weeks

How does it work?

  • You register for the program and tell us a little about yourself.
  • We take the information you gave us and, to the best of our abilities, provide you with personalized resources and exercises that meet your individual needs over the course of 14 weeks.
  • Because there is new material each week that builds on the previous weeks, the program works best if you visit at least once a week.
