About Hello: My name is Tamra and I am hoping that this program can help me move and exercise with my limitations. 20 years ago I was miss diagnosed with just having a sprained foot and that went on for 4 months until I was told to get a specialist to look at it. Which I have done and he informed me that I indeed had broken my foot and because of walking on it, it has caused some damage to your foot. So they had to rebreak it and try to get it to heal on its own. I was in a cast for 6 months. When they found the pain had worsen they did more test and found the break had severed the nerve, so they had to take 8"s of nerve from my foot. I developed RSD and I have pain in that foot 24/7. But I have learned to live with the pain. Just like I live with the arthritis pain I have. Then almost 6 years ago I found I had Triple Negative Breast cancer Stage 3. I ended up having a bilateral biopsy. Which left more limitations then was told to me. Almost a year of chemo and radiation. I have excepted my fate, but did not let that get me down or limit what I wanted to do. I just had to figure out how to change how I do things. Than 2 years ago I had both my knees replaced at the same time and that is still limiting me of what I can do. I thought with new knees I would be unstoppable! That was not the case with me. I can not get on the floor, bend very good nor sit in a low chair. But I make it work and don't let it get me down. Everything is a challenge that I face on a daily basis and I am not a quitter but do need some ideas how to go from here and take charge of my health and weight. I have had numerus hurdles to over come but the weight has been a challenge that I can not do on my own, I really need help and support with it. I love to scrapbook and go to other state conventions every year and I love it, of course there are challenges no mater where I go. I work behind a desk most of my 40 hour weekday. I am in charge of a Transitional Living Center and I enjoy it immensely! I have been a Human Service Coordinator for going on three years now. Before that I was a direct support professional for 10 years before being promoted. I enjoy being outside just taking in the beauty. I like to talk to friends on Facebook and have made a lot of new friends through there as well. 3 years ago I went on a cruise and just loved it. The sand was a challenge but my best friend helped me walk through it anyway. I picked sea shells and waded in the ocean, swam with the Dolphins which made my year! it was great. They also had the Dolphin do tricks in front of me and I found out when done they took pictures. So I have pictures of petting and kissing the Dolphin. I am glad I took that cruise. I am hoping this program will help me get to my healthy weight so I can hopefully do more activities. I would love to talk with others who are struggling like I am. We might be able to support each other. I am looking forward to starting this program.

Welcome to NCPAD's 14-Week Program to a Healthier You!

What is the program?

  • Description: A free, personalized, web-based physical activity and nutrition program
  • Target Audience: People with mobility limitations, chronic health conditions and physical disabilities
  • Goal: To help you get moving and making healthy nutrition choices
  • Duration: 14 weeks

How does it work?

  • You register for the program and tell us a little about yourself.
  • We take the information you gave us and, to the best of our abilities, provide you with personalized resources and exercises that meet your individual needs over the course of 14 weeks.
  • Because there is new material each week that builds on the previous weeks, the program works best if you visit at least once a week.
