Results showed that all parameters increased except blood pressure with VO2 peaking during the third stage. Heart rate was elevated the highest during the fourth stage, while blood pressure was the greatest during the first stage. Blood pressure during exercise decreased in every stage compared to rest.
Bilateral shoulder shrug progressive resistive exercise performed at self-perceived levels of difficulty caused small increases in metabolism and cardiopulmonary function for a sedentary person with a C4 SCI.
