Alabama’s IHC operates out of Easter Seals Birmingham in Shelby County, Alabama. They are working to provide a range of inclusive environmental, programmatic, and health opportunities for people with disabilities in the community. They are currently partnering with other organizations on the “Carly’s Clubhouse” initiative to help create a 30,000-square foot playhouse and sensory center designed for children of all ability levels. They are also creating and launching inclusive yoga and martial arts classes. Finally, they have partnered with the Pelham Eye Center to assist in providing vision screenings to people with disabilities. Along with the continued effort required to ensure the success of these endeavors, the IHC also plans to explore the possibility of creating a community garden and working with local farmers markets to make them more inclusive in the near future.
