A Practice for Individuals with a Spinal Cord Injury

In case you haven’t heard, September is National Yoga Month! At NCHPAD we think this is cause for celebration.Yoga brings together the physical and mental to create a peaceful, relaxed body and mind. It helps to manage stress and anxiety while increasing flexibility, strength and range of motion. Practicing yoga might seem like just stretching, but it can do much more for your body from the way you feel to how you look and move.

I can’t practice yoga, you say? Not true! Beginning with Inclusive Yoga: A Practice for Individuals with a Spinal Cord Injury, we’re changing the rules on what is possible when it comes to time on your mat.

Over the past year, members of our team have been 10 sun salutations deep in creating this first-of-its-kind yoga practice that will be the first in a series of inclusive yoga videos we plan to provide for individuals with disabilities.

We also have an inclusive pose for each week of September to celebrate National Yoga Month and the idea of yoga for EVERY body. So grab a mat, take a deep breath and join us as we show you how yoga is for you.

Week 1: Breathe (seated with hands at prayer position)
Week 2: Downward Facing Dog
Week 3: Upward Facing Dog
Week 4: Seated Spinal Twist
Week 5: Eye of the Needle
