NCHPAD - Building Healthy Inclusive Communities

Welcome to TEAM AWESOME

children with differing ability levels together in a gymnasium

Game Day (the first day of school) is just a few days away, and we need you to be one of our star players! So gear up, eat healthy, and get ready to train like a champ!

Step 1: RISE and SHINE! Begin waking up a little earlier every day so when that alarm goes off on that first day of school, your body won’t go into shock.  Rising earlier will help you be wide awake and ready to go so you don’t miss the bus or fall asleep in any of your classes.  clip art alarm clock
Step 2: Eat a Healthy Breakfast! Everyone knows that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. A healthy breakfast provides you with the energy you need to make it through the day. You don’t want your stomach growling before lunch time. For some healthy breakfast ideas, check out our Nutrition section. breakfast consisting of eggs, tomatoes, and toast
Step 3: Time to Stretch – Begin your mornings with some morning yoga. Yoga helps increase your range of motion as well as get your body ready to move through the rest of the day. Here are some moves you can do on your own or with some help: http://www.namastekid.com/learn/kids-yoga-poses/.  clip art image of a girl stretching
Step 4: Brain Games – In order to be a tip-top athlete, your brain has to be in as good of shape as your body. To make this happen, spend no more than one hour in front of a screen during the day (this includes TV, video games or computer). Try to get your brain active by doing a puzzle, working some word games or reading a book.  clip art image of a brain lifting a barbell
Step 5: TEAM AWESOME Workouts – This is where we separate the champs from the rest. Back-to-School workouts will have you ready to go! Following this workout plan will prepare you for walking or pushing those long hallways, carrying those heavy backpacks, and everything else that comes with returning to school. Click here to see the workout plan. a boy in a wheelchair holds a water bottle
Step 6: Bedtime – Begin going to bed a little earlier every night. No one wants to be around a grouch the first day of school and that is just what you will be if you don’t get enough sleep! If you start falling asleep a little earlier every night you won’t have any trouble hitting the hay when it’s the NIGHT before GAME DAY!  a girl goes to sleep
