Carb Control


Carbohydrates are main sources of energy for your body. However, if you do not use those carbs (through exercise for instance), they will be converted and stored in your body as fat. What types of foods are considered carbs? Carb-rich foods include bread, pasta, beans, potatoes, dairy products, fruit, and sweets. Choosing a high fiber option such as whole wheat bread may help to keep you fuller for longer, prevent a spike in blood sugar, and even reduce cholesterol levels. A great way to limit your carb intake is by using the MyPlate diagram. Limit starchy foods to one-fourth of your plate and dairy items to three cups per day. Another way to manage your carbs is to only consume between three and five servings per meal. All you have to do is remember that one serving of carbohydrates is equal to 15 grams.
