Picture of Weight Bench machine Weight Bench
  • Here, the weight is still supported by the side beams. The number of plates added onto the bar determines how much weight is lifted.
  • Proper position of the weight bench relative to the bar has the bar around chest level.
  • Hands are positioned on the bar a little more than shoulder width apart, with palms facing away from the body.
  • Gloves are worn to provide a better grip.
  • The entire back of the body remains in contact with the weight bench at all times and lifting at the gluts or arching at the back should both be avoided.
  • A seat belt is used to add stability.
  • Legs are fully extended, but may be bent at the knees if this is more comfortable for the user.
