- The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) offers the eighth issue of its online Foundation Funding Guide. In response to requests from NACCHO membership, NACCHO is working with The Foundation Center to identify funding resources at the national and state level from private foundations. Each month, the guide will focus on one area of public health. This month, the guide features foundations that have listed "Birth Defects & Developmental and Physical Disabilities" as a focus area. - The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) displays timely information on their Web site about preventive benefits for Medicare beneficiaries. Beginning in 2005, all newly enrolled Medicare beneficiaries will be covered for an initial physical examination if it is given in the first 6 months they are enrolled in Medicare Part B. In addition, all beneficiaries will be covered for cardiovascular screening blood tests, and those at risk will be covered for a diabetes screening test in order to increase early detection and treatment of this life-threatening condition.
