Notes

Camp Starfish fosters the success and growth of children with emotional, learning, and behavioral problems by providing individualized attention as part of structured, nurturing and fun group programs

Every camper is placed into a bunk based on his or her age, abilities, and needs. A typical bunk consists of 5 campers who are supervised by a team of 4 counselors. The bunk spends a majority of the day engaged as a group in traditional summer camp activities. The activities at Starfish include:
  • Athletics: soccer, basketball, flag-football, softball, whiffleball, and ultimate frisbee
  • Movement: dance, yoga, martial arts, and gymnastics
  • Expression & Creation: arts & crafts, music & drama, cooking, and sewing
  • Education: nature exploration, chess, learning center, yearbook, and computers
  • Waterfront: swim instruction, kayaking, canoeing, free swim, and tubing
  • Teambuilding and challenge initiatives
At the learning center, campers are engaged in basic science experiments, creative writing activities, and lessons on health and hygiene. The learning center staff also educate the campers on the worlds cultures through art, dance, and music.

Twice a day, the campers enjoy a structured free-play. Once a day, during choice time, campers choose a club to participate in such as theater, track & field, origami, kite-making, a language class, and floor hockey.

Every activity at Starfish is specifically geared to meet the needs and abilities of each bunk, as well as each child. Every activity at Starfish is well-structured and guided by a thoughtfully designed curriculum. Staff consistently seek innumerable ways to provide campers with positive reinforcement while helping them to recognize and articulate their strengths.
