You'll find a full range of Cybex cardio and strength machines, including bikes, stair steppers, treadmills, and resistance-training equipment; aerobics, tai chi and yoga classes; massage therapy, stress reduction and nutrition programs, all under the direction and medical expertise of Burke's world-class staff.

The Burke Adult Fitness Center provides many different programs to meet the needs of anyone interested in medically based exercise. So whether you have just completed rehabilitative therapy, or have an on-going medical condition, or are simply interested in getting into shape under medically based supervision, The Burke Adult Fitness Center is for you.

Programs and Classes

All group exercise classes may be previewed (participated in once) at no charge. Physician clearance for Yoga and Tai Chi is responsibility of participant .

Community Aquatics Fitness Challenge

The fitness challenge program is for patients who no longer require skilled therapy, but wish to continue with a structured community-based exercise program that utilizies strength training and cardiovascular equipment. Individuals must be able to use equipment unassisted or bring someone with them to assist.

Fit 4 Life Programs
  • Post Stroke Program: For individuals who have had a stroke, do not require skilled therapy and want to continue with a structured community-based exercise program. The program has three levels - Wheelchair based, Assistance needed, and Independent.
  • Strength and Conditioning Program: For individuals with orthopedic or neurological conditions who do not require skilled therapy and want to continue with a structured community-based program. The program has three levels - Wheelchair based, Assistance needed, and Independent.
  • Pulmonary Program: This program includes exercise and education for individuals with pulmonary problems.
  • PACE Program: This program has been desigend for people with arthritis and has a basic as well as an advanced group.
  • Parkinson's Disease program: This program focuses on movement, stretching and strengthening for the individual with Parkinson's Disease.
Tai Chi Programs
  • The Tai Chi Experience: Introduction to Tai Chi focusing on stress reduction, relaxation, increased vitality and balance.
  • Golden Tai Chi: A modified version of Tai Chi developed especially for seniors with balance concerns.
  • Golden Tai Chi Workout: Open to students who have taken Golden Tai Chi or are physically active.
Yoga

This is an introductory program that teaches stress reduction, relaxation, and yoga postures. Techniques and postures are tailored to each participant's level of endurance and flexibility.

Weight Management Program

Nutrition and exercise education program designed to meet individual needs. Five sessions.
