Notes

Camp Sunrise, founded in 1994, is not only a fun-filled summer camp experience free from the isolation so often associated with the AIDS epidemic, but it is also a support for Ohio children and families year round with programming that allow campers and their families to interact on a more regular basis throughout the year.

The Camp Program is open to child ages 6-17 throughout the state of Ohio who are impacted by HIV/AIDS. The week at camp not only offers usual camp activities such as canoeing, hiking, and swimming, but it also offers special activities each year. Some of the most popular activities have been the talent shows, carnivals, and dances!

The Sundog Program is for the campers ages 15-17. This part of Camp Sunrise is designed specifically to develop confidence, self-esteem, and coping skills for older campers who would like more leadership and responsibility. The participants spend the week learning more about their peers and themselves. The teens have a weekend retreat prior to camp to help develop a stronger bond before working and playing together at camp.

The Year-Round Program offers events throughout the year and throughout the state. This allows the campers and their families to keep friendships and contacts going throughout the year. This program also gives the volunteers the opportunity to stay involved after the week at camp ends. Activities have included picnics, sporting events, weekend retreats, and family outings.
