Adapted recreation programs are specifically designed for individuals with special needs. Lake Metroparks encourages people with special needs to mainstream into any of our program offerings.

Phonic Ear Assisted Listening Device Phonic Ear assisted listening devices, which provide necessary amplification to improve speech clarity, are available for hearing-impaired individuals. This system dramatically boosts the quality of any listening environment. Systems are available at Penitentiary Glen, Lake Farmpark and Children's Schoolhouse Nature Park.

Provide artistic means of expression - Create hands-on nature crafts - Live music play shop The Very Special Arts Festival is a community-based celebration that communicates the power of the arts and the benefits of Very Special Arts of Ohio programs, providing arts activities and music to children with disabilities.

Adapted Self Defense
  • Ages 8 and older
  • Two 90-minute sessions
  • Fee: $10
Learn proper stances, evasive movements and breaking out of grabs and holds. The class will increase your sense of confidence, coordination and flexibility.
