Notes

Located in central New York state, Patchwork is a non-profit organization dedicated to healing the body, mind, and spirit by offering therapeutic riding, summer camp, trail rides and lessons to persons with or without disabilities.

Our Goals
Summer Day Camp is directed at teaching each child to care for and ride a horse. Camps are tailored to the needs of each participant. The instructors work carefully to focus on expanding the riding and stable skills of each camper. We carefully consider size, previous riding experience, confidence level, and special areas of interest as we match each child to a horse or pony. The assigned horse or pony and the camper are "partners" for the entire camp session. Each horse has two riders during the day that share experiences and help each other. This relationship building is one of the features of Our Day Camp that sets us apart from others in the area. We encourage campers to stay for more than one session as progress tends to compound with each successive week.

What will campers learn?

  • Horse handling and leading
  • Grooming Horse care basics
  • Tack use and care
  • Basic Western/English Riding Skills
  • Intermediate Western Riding Skills
  • Advanced Western Riding Maneuvers (skill and time permitting)
  • Western Events on Horseback (skill and time permitting)
...and if practical... barrel patterns, poles, key hole, down / back, cattle work if time
