Notes

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, or EAP, is an extremely beneficial form of psychotherapy. A licensed mental health therapist and a certified therapeutic riding instructor, work together with the PPTRC horses to create an extremely powerful therapy experience. The focus of EAP is not riding skills. Most EAP activities take place on the ground working with and around the horses. These equine related activities are used to help the clients learn important skills needed for building positive and appropriate relationships. This unique setting for therapy helps issues, emotions and challenges to be experienced in a non-threatening manner that is very motivating.

In addition to mounted activities, EAP includes non-riding equine activities that clients can tie in to real life experiences such as:
  • grooming
  • leading the horse
  • observing equine behaviors
