Notes

The Adaptive Baseball League of Edmond (A.B.L.E.) was created in April 2002, when a need was expressed for adaptive baseball in the Edmond community. A.B.L.E.'s mission is to provide children with disabilities an opportunity to play baseball in an athletic environment adapted to their needs. The league is open to any child who is currently attending elementary, junior high or high school in the Edmond community. Home-schooled children are also welcome to participate. A.B.L.E. had 33 participants compete in two teams in its inaugural year. In 2003, A.B.L.E. hosted 44 participants divided into four teams and was held every Sunday in April from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Mitch Park in Edmond.

A.B.L.E., along with The Sport's Group, Inc. and the City of Edmond are building a Miracle Field at Mitch Park. The field will be custom-designed with a synthetic turf to prevent injuries and make it easier for athletes to go around the bases and field the baseballs. The surface will be completely flat to eliminate any barriers to those with disabilities.

You can be a part of this and we need your support. Members of the community can participate by being a league volunteer and by making a contribution, large or small, toward the construction of the field.

For more information about participating in A.B.L.E., or if you would like to donate to this worthy cause, contact Katrina Shaklee at kshaklee_tsg@ucok.edu or (405) 974-3144.
