Notes

The Health Recovery Centre is a residential health facility which is part of our International Centre.

The first of its kind in Canada, the Health Recovery Centre provides an opportunity for those with significant health problems to improve their health, through a program of focused and intensive practice of Taoist Tai Chi in a supportive, calm and healthy environment.

A broad range of medical conditions can benefit from the practice of Taoist Tai Chi. These can be the result of stress, the process of aging, as well as injuries and specific diseases. The Health Recovery Centre is available to those who wish to learn how to improve their health, using Taoist Tai Chi in an intensive and supervised environment. In particular, the Centre makes Taoist Tai Chi accessible to people with health problems that prevent them from attending regular Taoist Tai Chi classes, and provides them with a program that can be continued in their own community. The program is for those who don't need constant medical supervision, and have some degree of mobility. The Health Recovery Centre is not a medical facility.

Taoist Tai Chi is the sole discipline employed at the Health Recovery Centre. A senior instructor designs a program for each participant based on their specific health requirements. Assistance is then provided by accredited Taoist Tai Chi instructors, all of whom are volunteers. Over the course of their stay, participants grow more confident in their ability to incorporate these activities into their daily routine.

This facility reflects the Society's vision, as established by its founder Master Moy Lin-shin, of providing the healing benefits of Taoist Tai Chi to those who wish to restore and maintain their health. The development of this facility represents the culmination of more than 10 years of fundraising, planning and effort on the part of Master Moy Lin-shin, the medical advisors to the Society, and the enthusiastic support and generosity of local members and affiliated branches in Canada and around the world.

The Centre provides an opportunity to create bridges of understanding between the Eastern and Western medical traditions concerning health and disease. The Centre also provides valuable learning opportunities for volunteer instructors to gain experience in teaching Taoist Tai Chi to those with health problems.
