Notes

Able Sail has offered sailing programs to persons with disabilities in the South East New Brunswick region since 1985.

Able Sail / Handi-Voile Inc. is a unique project, its main objectives are:

  1. Fun.
  2. Integration of disabled persons into the Shediac Bay sailing community.
  3. Offering relaxing recreational sailing for all persons with disabilities.
  4. Disabled persons who wish may learn how to sail competitively with instruction from our experienced sailing staff.
No matter what disability you may have, we believe that you can enjoy sailing and therefore are eligible for our program. No previous experience is necessary. If you use a wheelchair we have an hydraulic lift that enables us to place you safely and directly into one of our boats specifically designed counterbalanced seats. If you use a ventilator, please bring along a friend to help you.

Recreational sailing on the GORDON MCRAE
This Freedom Independence model 20-foot sailboat has been specifically designed for the use of disabled persons. Our boat sails from the Shediac Municipal Marina every day from mid-June through to the end of August. Our vessel is available, by appointment, to take disabled persons, their friend and families for a two-hour cruise on Shediac Bay. There is always an experienced Sailing Partner in charge of each outing. Clients are also encouraged to take an active role in handling the boat. Our Sailing Partners are always pleased to offer basic sailing instruction for first timers.

Learn to sail on the MICHAEL DUNN
This 16-foot Martin was conceived as a "single-handed, one-design" racer, with a versatility that allows sailors with disabilities to sail and compete equally with their able-bodied counterparts.
