Gaits to Success offers therapeutic horseback riding - not "pony rides" - to our students age 3 years and older. Session times and programs are designed to fit the individual needs of each rider (most last about an hour) and are conducted by volunteers who are NARHA-certified instructors. The students are taken through eight levels of riding skills with the instructor. If a child is new to horseback riding or has a special medical condition, two side-walkers may assist. The support given by the side-walkers provides safety, but riders must still use their muscles to maintain a comfortable balance.
Touching and grooming the horses play a vital role as well. The barn is specially designed for the needs of our students. Rider safety is always at the forefront of every lesson. All students must wear the proper attire, including NARHA-approved safety helmets.
As a North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA) member center, Gaits to Success adheres to NARHA standards and guidelines to promote a safe, quality, therapeutic riding program.
This program serves all of South Mississippi and Slidell, Louisiana areas.
