Notes

Riding To The Top Therapeutic Riding center is a NARHA (North American Riding for the Handicapped Associated) Premier Accredited Center. RTT's mission is to provide therapeutic riding services to children and adults with physical, cognitive and/or emotional disabilities. We offer programs at two locations - our farm in Windham and at a satellite program at Pineland Farms Equestrian Center in New Gloucester.

Our instructors are NARHA registered instructors and have a variety of backgrounds including physical therapy, nursing, social work, equine expertise and more. In addition, we have a great staff including a full-time Program Director and Volunteer Coordinator to ensure that our lessons and scheduling process is handled as efficiently as possible.

Riding To The Top has served hundreds of children and adults in the greater Portland area ranging in age from 3 to 70+ years. Our clients are referred by teachers, doctors, therapists, social workers, family members and friends. The benefits of horseback riding are helpful to individuals with many types of disabilities, including:
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Stroke
  • Brain Injuries
  • Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Developmental Delays
  • Spinal Injuries
  • Down Syndrome
  • Emotional/Behavioral Disorders
Riders come to us individually or as participants with agency or school programs. We serve clients from day treatment centers, hospitals, specialized youth programs and many area school systems. Compared to the traditional therapeutic environment, the farm and horse experience encountered in therapeutic riding is more open and dynamic. Horseback riding is an activity that is inherently therapeutic. Family and friends can share in the achievements of the rider. Everyone can experience the joy, excitement, peacefulness and freedom that comes from working with and knowing horses.
