Ramapo for Children, founded in 1922, is a nationally recognized, non-profit residential program which annually serves over 1,700 children who are at-risk or have special needs from early childhood through adolescence.

Camp Ramapo is consistent with Ramapo for Children's overall mission: to serve children with a range of emotional and learning problems in a natural, outdoor environment. It provides educational and recreational experiences which promote social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth.

Three Summer Camp Programs
Children, aged four to sixteen, are referred by parents, teachers, and mental health professionals and we offer the following programs:
  • Early Adventure (ages 4-6) - Camp Ramapo's Early Adventure Program gives young children who are fragile and disadvantaged between 4-6 years of age a therapeutic, educational and fun-filled summer camp experience that prepares them to enter school with improved readiness and social skills. On-going studies show that Early Adventure campers make significant gains in many areas of development, and that this "boost" lasts for many years.
  • Summer Adventure (ages 7-14) - Each summer, Camp Ramapo serves more than 600 children with special needs in a beautiful and engaging outdoor environment. Ramapo kindles a spirit of hope in exceptional children. From anxious and fearful young girls and boys to teenagers struggling with emotional and learning problems, Camp Ramapo tries to offer youngsters opportunities for healthy growth and normal development.
  • Teen Leadership (ages 14-16) - Teen Leadership offers teenagers a variety of challenging activities and learning opportunities designed to build healthy relationships and promote discipline, self-reflection, a willing attitude, and concern for others. Teen Leaders are expected to commit to a set of community values and individual principles that are reinforced through small group seminars, adventure-based activities, community service projects, and consistent, ongoing contact with a Ramapo mentor.

Camp Ramapo offers a safe, predictable and highly structured environment. Campers live in rustic bunks with an average of six children in each group. The atmosphere is warm and supportive, and with a one-to-one staff-to-camper ratio all activities are carefully supervised.

Days Are Action Packed!
During each of our summer sessions, 200 campers participate in creative projects, sports and outdoor experiences. All activities are individualized to each child's abilities. Campers swim, canoe, hike and camp out. They improve learning skills in the Reading Center and Discovery Center. Creative talents are nurtured in Arts, Crafts, and other enrichment activities. Selected older campers are offered pre-vocational training; Some go on to work at camp.
