The purpose of the Albany Cougars Special Hockey Club is to provide an amateur athletic hockey program for youth and adults with developmental disabilities including but not limited to Autism, Asperger Syndrome, severe Attention Deficit Disorder and learning disabilities, mild Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, intellectual disability and Pervasive Developmental Disorder. The program is open to players from age 5 and up, male or female who are physically able but are ineligible or unable to participate in existing organized hockey programs due to his or her disability.

The Albany Cougars Special Hockey Club, Inc. is a not for profit organization with 501(c) and (3) approval and registered in the State of New York. It is a member of Special Hockey International (The Heart League). The Albany Cougars Special Hockey Club is registered with the New York State Amateur Hockey Association NYSAHA and USA Hockey, Inc, which is the governing body for the sport of hockey in the United States.
