Notes

The Joints in Motion program at Northeast Georgia Medical Center uses a unique approach to rehabilitation after a hip or knee replacement. Based on the goal of patients moving and exercising as soon as possible after surgery, Joints in Motion uses team spirit and group support to help patients recover quickly.

After a hip or knee replacement, a patient will recover in one of Northeast Georgia Medical Centers orthopedic units for an average of three to five days. During this time, the patient will participate in the Joints in Motion program of physical and occupational therapy which includes:
  • A "coach" for each patient a family member or friend selected by the patient to support him during the program and at home.
  • Education and training for the patient and coach and evaluation of the home or discharge environment.
  • A daily newsletter delivered each morning to patients which highlights the events of the day and offers advice and tips about the recovery process.
  • Get-togethers after discharge with other Joints in Motion graduates.
After the inpatient stay, Northeast Georgia Medical Center offers several options for patients to continue rehabilitation. These include:
  • A dedicated inpatient rehabilitation unit
  • Transitional care units on both campuses
  • Outpatient rehabilitation which includes aquatic therapy in our rehabilitation pool
After completion of your course of physical therapy, you can continue recovery through:
  • A transitional gym and pool exercise program through Fit for Life Wellness Services
  • Membership in public pool classes specially designed for clients who have had a joint replacement.
The patient and the patients physician, family and therapists will help determine the best treatment option.
