Notes

Camp Huntington is a co-ed, residential, seven-week program for children and young adults with a variety of special needs. Our program is designed to maximize a child's potential and develop their strengths and hidden abilities. We offer a unique program approach we've developed: Adaptive Therapeutic Recreation. Your child will enjoy the fun-filled days of summer camp while learning practical life skills. All our activities are instructional in nature. Our activities are designed to stimulate a child's awareness and interest in their environment and in relationships, while building their confidence, self-esteem and growth towards independence.

Who We Serve: Children and young adults with: Learning and Developmental Disabilities, Attention Deficit and Attention Deficit with Hyperactivity Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Asperger's Syndrome, Pervasive Developmental Disabilities and other special needs. Our campus is located in the beautiful hamlet of High Falls, New York within the Catskill Mountain region.

Our well-equipped activity centers provide a wide variety of fun-filled and challenging opportunities for campers. Therapeutic activities are adaptively designed to match the pace and ability of each camper. Positive development is nurtured in a non-competitive atmosphere. In addition to activities listed below, we also feature many special events at camp, such as, out-of-camp trips, birthday celebrations, plays, musical performances and much more.

Activities include:
  • Ropes Course
  • Sensory Room - For campers with Autism
  • Horseback Riding - The Nevele Country Club ranch hosts our horseback riding program. A former special education teacher and his well-trained staff run the ranch. All levels of riding ability are welcomed. Long pants, boots or shoes with heals are required. Riding helmets are provided. A walking assistant along the horse's side supervises all novice riders.
  • Outdoor Experience - Nature huts are part of our program, including environmental education and observation, gardening, scouting, hiking, picnics, cook-outs and campfires.
  • Sports - We have a full range of sporting equipment, courts, playgrounds and fields. Campers are encouraged and assisted to participate in these sports within the extent of their capabilities: baseball, basketball, volleyball, soccer, tennis, handball, ping pong, badminton, miniature golf, lawn bowling and trampoline.
  • Swimming - Adaptive recreational and educational swimming is one of the most popular activities among campers. A special buddy system is used to ensure waterfront safety.
