Notes

River Riders is an accessible and inclusive kayaking program providing instructional and recreational opportunities for everyone in the Southern Maryland Area. River Riders offers lessons, summer camps for kids, and guided trips. Discounts are available for groups of 12 or more people. We also host Scouting groups allowing troops to earn patches/badges.

Lessons, guided trips, and kayak camp are open to people of all abilities. Greenwell has a wheelchair-accessible floating kayak and canoe launch, open to the public during regular park hours (sunrise to sunset). River Riders is in session from April through October.

Kayak Lessons
Kayak instructor and student get ready to depart from Greenwell's accessible floating kayak launch.Lessons are taught by ACA-certified instructors and are offered throughout the kayaking season. Recreational kayaking lessons cover paddling techniques, safety information, non-skirted wet exits, proper body posture and stroke improvement, and much more. All lessons include kayaks, personal flotation devices, and all other necessary equipment, as well as time for practice and fun and games. When all participants feel comfortable, short field trips will be added. Lessons run 1-1/2 hours. Minimum age for kayak lessons is 7 years old. Reservations are required. Please call 301-373-9775.
