Notes

Quest utilizes a comprehensive therapeutic system that provides a treatment plan for each child. Through observing the child in camp activities throughout the day, staff is able to see how problems present themselves. Staff are trained to provide positive interventions to teach the children new, constructive behaviors. Campers receive staff feedback each hour after completing an activity through discussion and assignment of "Quest points". These points are used at the "Friday Store" to purchase toys and treats. Group therapy four days per week integrates three major therapeutic components. First, behavioral contracts are made and rated for each camper. These provide direct information for each child of how others perceive their behavior. The group focuses on the issues occurring between group members, solving problems as they occur. Group therapy also focuses on particular issues relevant for each age group to help face their problems more productively. Through this combined therapeutic program, campers achieve improvement in self- esteem, peer relationships and understanding and expression of feelings.

Through camp activities, children learn to have more fun while counselors assist them to solve problems and increase confidence. Daily sports, games ,arts and crafts and "Fabulous Fridays" provide activities to enjoy and learn from. While Quest campers swim on other afternoons at the San Ramon Aquatic Center, Tuesdays and Thursdays provide opportunities for longer and varied recreation programs. Art, drama, music and nature programs will provide more creative programming. While these programs will continue to encourage group interaction, each camper will have a chance to expose themselves to new interests. Campers may choose to go on an extended hike, create art projects, movies and plays, or play one of their favorite games for a two to three hour period.

Each child is provided an individualized instructional program to accommodate unique learning styles. Campers are taught baseball and soccer skills with specialized techniques so that each experiences improvement and self confidence in sports participation. Staff members work to improve children's skills so they are more successful in school and sports activities.
