ADAPTED AQUATICS

Please contact the Aquatic Supervisor if you are interested in lessons. Private and Semi-Private Adapted lessons are available to members and non-members. Lessons are designed to promote recreational, physiological, psychological and social benefits of aquatic activities for both the physically and mentally challenged. Times of these lessons are dependent on the availability of instructors and open pool space.

ARTHRITIS AQUATIC PROGRAM

Recreational class taught by a certified instructor. Individuals will use gentle movements to help increase range of motion while decreasing stiffness and pain.

ARTHRITIS LOW INTENSITY WATER EXERCISE

Recreational class taught by a certified instructor. Individuals will use low to moderate intensity movements in order to improve muscular strength, help increase range of motion while decreasing stiffness and pain and increase endurance with a minimum risk of injury. Good posture and proper body mechanics will be stressed. Program will take place in the lap pool at the 4 1/2 foot end using a buoyancy belt. Participants should have functional and relatively comfortable shoulder and elbow motion; be able to tolerate 15 minutes standing or walking on land without excessive pain, fatigue or shortness of breath. Participants may enter the pool via the ladder or the lift chair.

AQUATIC MS EXERCISE

Offered in cooperation with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, this program is specifically designed to deal with the physical difficulties encountered by our friends who are fighting MS. Gentle stretching and flexibility, range of motion and water walking exercises are conducted in the shallow end of the competition pool. To register, call the Northeast Ohio Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society at (216)696-8220.
