I have been involved in sports, fitness and health care since 1972. In college I majored in Exercise Science, with minors in Health Education and Athletic Training. This included classes in Motor Learning, Motor Development, as well as classroom and practical training in Adaptive Physical Education. While earning a masters degree in counseling, I took a course entitled, Psychological, Theological & Cultural Issues in Disability. Throughout my career I have worked with persons with a wide range of disabilities as an Athletic Trainer, Fitness Professional, Physical Therapy Aid, Emergency Medical Technician, Hospital Chaplain and Counselor.
I specialize in working with adults, many of whom have been inactive and may be at increased health risk or have controlled medical conditions. Prospective clients receive a free consultation to discuss their needs, goals and expectations, as well as fees and scheduling. If we decide to work together, well begin the Assessment and Set-up. I take a thorough medical, health and lifestyle history. Well spend up-to two hours on fitness assessment and structural and functional assessment. From this Ill write and exercise prescription and spend two to three hours teaching you the exercises. If we agree to continue working together, well set up a schedule and begin meeting regularly. My job is to empower my clients to manage their own workoutsnot to become dependent on me. Beyond exercise, I assist clients to make long term changes in their health behavior and to manage stress. Since Im not a dietitian or nutritionist, I cant legally offer nutritional counseling. I do provide nutritional education and have several dietitians I refer clients to.
