General Description

Michael Barnes uses a multidisciplinary approach to designing exercise programs. Their innovation allows them to create success for many needs. Working with one of our trainers can assist you to address many different conditions and populations. Such as:

  • Pre- and post-rehabilitation for orthopedic conditions: If you have been around long enough it seem like it is only a matter of time until you have some type of orthopedic issue. You can significantly accelerate the recovery time with "pre-habilitative" exercises. This is basically strengthening an area before you go into surgery. This type of training routine may also involve some overall cardiovascular fitness, flexibility and nutrition. A comprehensive training approach with pre and post rehab will ensure that you have the best opportunity to minimize the impact an injury will have on your lifestyle. Once you have completed the initial phases of rehab you may want to continue with a program.

  • Sport performance and conditioning: Without question improving physical characteristics like strength, power, speed and endurance can have an impact on performance. Improving these physical qualities uses training methods like plyometrics, tactical metabolic interval training, medicine balls, agility training, dynamic flexibility and sports nutrition all overlaid on a concept termed periodization. Periodization is basically knowing when to do what. Let a trainer at Infinity guide you through a program that will quickly get you the results you are looking for.

  • General health and fitness: Most people dont necessarily want to run a marathon or bench press 315 pounds, but would rather loose a little weight, tone up some and generally feel a little better about themselves. Most of our clients fit into this category and we call this "the sport of life". The general approach on this type of exercise routine is to combine cardiovascular conditioning, some whole body resistance training, and flexibility with a sensible and sustainable nutrition program.

  • Weight Loss: Unfortunately being overweight just doesnt mean that you have some excess body fat. Being overweight can also be associated with type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke, sleep apnea, respiratory problems and some forms of cancer. Programs specifically designed for weight loss are somewhat specialized in nature and tracking how much exercise, progressing at a sensible rate and how often you should be training can be complicated. You may ask yourself what is more important to loose weight, diet or exercise. The truth is both. We will compliment your training routine with long term sustainable nutrition solutions. See the nutrition link for more information on diet (link to nutrition area of site).

  • Older Adults: Individuals who are 50 years of age and older may begin a reasonable fitness program including resistance training, cardiovascular training and flexibility to improve their overall fitness level. The design of the fitness program will depend on the individual but also have some general guidelines that should be followed. Some of these guidelines include training two to three non-consecutive days per week, train all major muscle groups, control exercise speed of movement, use a systematic progression to the training and avoid hard to control exercise that require a high degree of balance. Some of the benefits that can be expected from participation in a comprehensive fitness routine are a reduced bodyweight, lesson the risk of high blood pressure, certain types of cancer, improved sleep, stroke and improvements in digestion and elimination.

  • Youth physical fitness: The statistics are alarmingAmerican children are gaining more and more body fat and exercising less and less. The American College of Sports Medicine, the National Strength and Conditioning Association, the American Council on Exercise and the Presidents Counsel on Physical Activity and Sport support participation in fitness programs for children. Working with this special group of requires some specific considerations but the primary component for a childrens fitness program is fun. Infinity will assign a qualified trainer to work with one or more children, 2-3 days per week to get them started on an exercise routine that best suits their needs.

  • Pre- and post-natal fitness: Some women who exercise on a consistent basis may choose to continue to workout though their pregnancy. Maintaining physical activity will assist with cardiovascular and muscular fitness during pregnancy and will also ensure that you can get back into shape after the baby. According to the American College of Sports Medicine women who engage in a properly designed prenatal program may have a faster return to pre-pregnancy weight, strength and flexibility levels, reduce postpartum belly, have more energy reserves, have less weight gain, enhance physiological well being and incur many more benefits. There are specific guidelines for exercising during and after pregnancy. An Infinity trainer will see that you are staying within these guidelines and you are getting the most out of your time and energy.

  • Reconditioning and working around an injury: There is nothing more frustrating to an athlete than an injury that has slowed them down. If you are not careful you could find yourself a few pounds heavier as well and struggling to get back in shape. All injured structures of the body goe through the same general phases of healing. They are inflammation, repair and remodeling. Some of the physiological events associated with these events are pain, swelling, collagen fiber production, collagen fiber alignment and tissue strengthening. For each orthopedic injury there are indications, contraindications and precautions and these are defined by a medical professional. Infinity recommends that you find alternative methods to staying in shape like circuit training, stationary cycling, and strengthening around an injury to reduce rehab time to get you back in the game.

  • Osteopenia and osteoporosis prevention: Weight bearing exercises like walking and strength training are recommended to either prevent or curtail conditions like osteopenia and osteoporosis. There are several precautions that should be taken if you are starting a exercise program and have one of these conditions. We will see that you have a program that best addresses either of these conditions.

  • Cardiovascular and Respiratory Conditions such Hypertension, Stroke, and Asthma. These conditions are commonly seen is the general population of American society. The good news is that people with these conditions often see great benefit from regular physical activity which can have a profound impact on quality of life. Infinity trainers will closely work with your medical professional to ensure that you are staying within the recommended guidelines and get the most out of your time and life.

  • Physical disabilities: People with a physical disability need to stay healthy and active just as much as the next person. If you have a physical disability you know that you live in the same world and everyone else and you have made adaptations as needed. The same concept goes for exercisewe adapt the exercise program accordingly. An Infinity trainer will adapt equipment and your routine to best meet whatever physical challenge you may have.

  • Core and torso stabilization programs: There has been a lot of publicity about core training and what routines work best to have a slim and muscular waistline. The truth is there are no secrets. It is a combination of diet, exercise and genetics. If you are going for the six-pack or just want to drop a couple inches from your waistline we will help you reach your goals without the dance move or gimmicks.
