General Description
Dinosaurs once roamed here. Their fantastic remains are still visible embedded in the rocks. Today, the mountains, desert and untamed rivers flowing in deep canyons, support an array of life. Petroglyphs hint at earlier cultures. Later, homesteaders and outlaws found refuge here. Whether your passion is science, adventure, history or scenery, Dinosaur offers much to explore.

Dinosaurs may have drawn you to the monument, but there is much more to discover. Visitors are often stunned by scenic areas like Split Mountain, Rainbow Park, Harper''s Corner, and Echo Park. Twenty-three colorful layers of the Colorado Plateau have been sculpted by the elements into a variety of geologic formations. Rafters have known for decades about the virtues of floating through the intricate maze-like canyons carved by the Green and Yampa rivers. To forge memories that last a lifetime, thousands of visitors strap on life vests and join river guides on a thrilling float trip. Botanists and biologists are currently researching the peculiar nature of the plant and animal communities that live in this climatically strange place. Fans of history can learn about the outlaw stories or the many cultures who have called this place home. Once you have experienced the dinosaur bones, you''ll want to set aside time for the rest of the park!
