General Description
Projecting above the dense cottonwoods and willows along the Beaverhead River, this rock outcropping provided an opportunity for members of the Lewis and Clark Expedition to view the route ahead. Captain William Clark climbed this hill overlooking the Beaverhead River to scout what lay ahead for the Lewis and Clark Expedition. You can drive to the site located just 1 mile north of Dillon off Highway 91, park right next to it, and walk the trail to the top.

Clark''s Lookout State Park is located on the Beaverhead River at river mile 47 on the left hand side as you float down stream. Poindexter Slough is the next access site up stream from Clark''s Lookout. Beaverhead Rock is the next site down stream from Clark''s Lookout. Clark''s Lookout is one of 8 FWP managed sites on the Beaverhead River. The Beaverhead River is a tributary of the Jefferson River.
