General Description

Walter Cline Wetzel State Recreation Area is located in Lenox Township in Macomb County, approximately 30 miles north of Detroit. It is approximately 900 acres in size. There is no camping of any kind allowed. Wetzel SRA is open for hunting--waterfowl, upland birds, small & big game. Valid hunting licences are required. Wetzel SRA is open hiking, picnicking, nature watching, snowshoeing. Wetzel SRA is closed to metal detecting. There are ponds, gravel foot trails, gravel & paved parking, & pit toilets. There is also an airfield for flying model airplanes run by the Radio Control Club of Detroit & Friends of WC Wetzel SRA.
