General Description
Located one-half mile south of the center of the Town of South Berwick, and just a mile off busy Maine Route 236, Vaughan Woods Memorial State Park is a world apart, waiting to be discovered. Oblivious to development, hundred-year-old trails tower over shady trails, and ancient streams plunge down deep valleys to the tranquil Salmon Falls River below. Running for nearly a mile along the banks of the river, the park offers 165 acres of unspoiled forest to explore and scenic riverfront to hike with new discoveries waiting around every bend.

Whether you seek a relaxing stroll or an aerobic workout, restful solitude or fun with family and friends, this park has something for you. Walkers, hikers, runners, and equestrians will all find suitable trails here. Some steep slopes provide a challenge, while benches at scenic overlooks offer a chance to rest. All trails wind through a varied forest with wildflowers, birds, and other wildlife, including rabbits, coyotes, foxes, porcupines, deer, and moose. Picnicking is another popular activity. Just beyond the parking lot, our picnic area offers tables, charcoal grills, a water fountain, and toilet facilities.
