General Description
Highlands Hammock State Park is a 9,250 acre park best known for its jungle-like hardwood hammock forest. Nine nature trails wind through various habitats, the most popular being the elevate walkway known as the Cypress Swamp Trail. This boardwalk traverses the heart of the Charlie Bowlegs creek and offers viewing of wading birds, turtles and alligators against the dark, reflective waters. The park is also the site of Florida''s Civilian Conservation Corps Museum, the Hammock Inn restaurant, and a 168 site campground with water/electric hookups and a dump station. Bicycling, wildlife viewing, and bird watching are very popular here. Rangers provide guided tram tours through remote regions of the park, as well as other programs. Rental pavilions, a rentable Recreation Hall, group and youth camping, and equestrian trails as also available.
