General Description

46,000 Acre State Forest. Office located right along the interstate, one hiking trail leaves from this point and there is an overlook there as well. The rest of the forest is accessible on dirt roads and primitive campsites and scattered along these roads. There are no facilities in the forest other than a rest room and water faucet system both located at the forest headquaters. In addition there is an 18-mile ATV/off road vehicle trail, a 12-mile mountain bike trail, 45 miles of hiking trails, 4 additional scenic overlooks, and a boat ramp for access to the Potomac River. Main recreational uses are camping, hunting, ATV riding, hiking, canoeing, mountain biking, and fishing, respectively.
