State park or recreation area managed by a state agency
General Description
This park was created in 1939 by land donations and acquisitions by the State of North Carolina. It is culturally rich in Native American history as well as European settlers. This history includes the Kron Homesite, including the home, greenhouse and doctors office. Native Americans once mined Rhyolite at the top of Morrow Mountain used in making spear and arrow heads. Quarries were also created when the park was set up in the 1930''s. This park offers a wide variety of activities for the outdoor enthusiast including 16 miles of bridle trails and 15 miles of hiking trails. Morrow Mountain also offers 6 back country backpacking sites, 6 group camping sites, 106 family camping sites and 6 cabins. The parks also offers a swimming pool throughout the summer months. The park borders the union of the Yadkin, Uwharrie and Pee Dee River and offers canoeing rentals and shore-line fishing. A boat ramp allows anglers and water enthusiasts to launch watercraft.
