General Description
Established in 1842 to protect the Permanent Indian Frontier, Fort Scott played a significant role in events and forces that shaped the nation in the mid-19th century. Fort Scott National Historic Site preserves over 20 historic structures, some of the oldest in Kansas, and features 31 furnished rooms, a parade ground, exhibits, and a restored tallgrass prairie. From westward expansion, to Bleeding Kansas, and the Civil War, the site is rich with stories of our past.
