General Description
The Tewaukon NWR is located in the southeastern North Dakota and is situated on the western edge of the northern tallgrass prairie. The density of wetlands in the Prairie Pothole Region make it one of the most biologically productive systems on the continent. This 8,363-acre Refuge was established in 1945 to provide a resting and breeding place for migratory birds and other wildlife. People can enjoy fishing, hunting for deer and pheasants, and bird watching on the Refuge.
