The Ranger District offers a number of recreation attractions for the visitor, including Wilderness areas, Lake Roberts and the Gila Cliff Dwellings. The Copperas Vista and Clinton P. Anderson Overlooks offer beautiful views into river canyons and wild ranges. They overlook the eastern ramparts of the Gila Wilderness and honor one of the pioneers of the Wilderness Act.

The monument lies at the edge of the Gila Wilderness, the nation''s first designated wilderness area. This designation means that the wilderness character of the area will not be altered by the intrusion of roads or other evidence of human presence. The Gila Cliff Dwellings is a trailhead for 5 different trails. The monument includes a Visitors Center and a Contact Station (at the entry to the dwellings themselves).

The District offers several campgrounds on the Lake Roberts that are equipped with restrooms, drinking water, tables, and campfire grills. The Mesa and Upper End campgrounds require a nominal fee ($7). There are numerous trails of various lengths and levels of difficulties located throughout the area. No reservations are taken, all sites are available on a first come, first serve basis. The Upper End campground has 12 units and is open year-round. The Mesa campground has 24 units, 12 have water & electrical hookups, the remaining are dry-camping units. All units are $7.00 per day. Mesa will be open year-round.
