General Description
    There are a multitude of recreation opportunities in this district. The Silver City Ranger District has a number of developed campgrounds and numerous undeveloped campgrounds and picnic areas. There are many trails which vary drastically in length and difficulty and accommodate hikers, backpackers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. Several recreation sites make the Silver City Ranger District unique, Little Walnut, Fort Bayard, and the Gila River Bird Area.

    The largest of the group picnic grounds, Gomez Peak Group Area, can accommodate 200 people, 50 vehicles and has volleyball and horseshoe areas. The fee is $40.00. The East Group Area accomodates 75 people and 15 vehicles. The fee is $25.00. The West Group Area accomodates 50 people and 10 vehicles. The fee is $20.00 All group areas have tables, grills toilets, trashcans and water. There is also a baseball field that can be shared by East, West and the individual picnickers. Reservations are required. The individual/family picnic area has 15 sites, each equipped with a table and grill. One or two vehicles allowed per individual site.
